In the ‘90s and early 2000s, Shania Twain stuck to her natural brunette hair color. It was essential element of her signature look, flowing down her shoulders as she sang about “Any Man of Mine” in a denim-on-denim ensemble. In more recent years, however, the country music icon has been having a ball experimenting with different colors and styles, and her People’s Choice Country Awards bob is one of the most fun yet.
Twain, who hosted the event, cycled through a variety of hairstyles throughout the evening, but it was her red carpet flippy bob that really captured our attention. It was hard to miss, given all that volume! The bob was reminiscent of the bubble bob worn by stars like the one and only Barbie in the '60s and was the work of hairstylist Sami Knight. When paired with her denim top, skirt, and gloves, it felt like the definition of retro country music hair. You could absolutely see vintage Dolly Parton or Tammy Wynette wearing this look at the Grand Ole Opry with a whole lotta hairspray and a rhinestoned dress, right?

To get the look, Knight applied a hairpiece over Twain's hair and used Big SexyHair Root Pump Plus at the roots to plump up strands, then applied Big Altitude Bodifying Blow Dry Mousse to the mid-lengths and ends. Knight pulled the front and side pieces of Twain's hair under the hairpiece and pulled the rest onto the top of her head, pinning it and using a donut-shaped bun for to add even more volume at the crown. Knight then brushed through the hair to flip out the ends and finished with Volume Flex Texture Spray for “dimension and texture.”
The flippy bob has been one of the biggest red carpet trends of 2024, starting off strong with co-signs from Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, and Emma Stone, to name a few. Twain's take is definitely more retro, but also a whole lotta fun. Where else would you turn up the volume than a country music awards show?
