Instead of the traditional mud pots its Sonic the Hedgehog-inspired predecessor came packaged in, the new set of Gravitymud masks come in limited-edition tubes emblazoned with one of three Sonic characters — Sonic, Knuckles, or Tails — in honor of the video game's 25th anniversary. As for the treatment instead each tube? It's the same O.G. Gravitymud formula packed with plumping hyaluronic acid and fine line-fighting red algae extract that you know and love from GlamGlow.
And just like the last launch, we imagine these treatments will sell out fast. So nab your own — or all three — beginning today for $22 each at glamglow.com.

I thought I was all set with my winter skin-care routine. That is, until I laid eyes on the GlamGlow Sonic Blue Gravitymud Firming Treatment. As soon as I saw that familiar little blue hedgehog on the packaging, my inner eight-year-old freaked out. So for all of my fellow '90s babies, I was obligated to put this cool blue mask to the test. I’ll just go ahead and tell you now it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had with a face mask.
The popular skin-care brand teamed up with Sega, the classic video-game company, in honor of the plucky hedgehog's twenty-fifth anniversary. If you aren’t familiar with the original Gravitymud, it’s a supercool skin-defining treatment that you leave on for 20 to 30 minutes (just enough time to squeeze in a quick gaming session). As it dries, polymers in the formula give skin a lift which lasts for a couple hours, and anti-agers like hyaluronic acid and red algae extract to provide a youthful and brightening appearance. The mask also transforms from white to chrome as it dries, making for some pretty awesome selfies. However, the new GlamGlow Sonic Blue Gravitymud Firming Treatment completely gives the original a supersonic run for its money.

The new version of the mask comes in a mesmerizing sonic-blue shade, and like the original, it includes its own mini face brush. The cool blue color is courtesy of marine algae plasma, which also lends the formula extra tightening properties. If you were wild for the piña colada scent of the original, you're in luck. While the colors are different, the fragrances are just about the same. The cute brush made the application process easy-peasy. Once I swept a thin layer along my face, a pleasant tingling sensation set in, which dissipated as soon as the mask began to dry and tighten. Per the directions, I set my timer to 30 minutes, put “I’m Blue” on repeat, and pretended I was a very still, very inexpressive member of the Blue Man Group.
Since it is a gaming-inspired mask, I couldn’t think of a better time to put the Sega Genesis Classic Game Console I got my boyfriend for Christmas to good use. (It obviously includes Sonic the HedgeHog I and II.) After a cool ten minutes of speeding through South Island and chasing emeralds, I noticed that the dark-blue cream hardened, transforming into a pretty galactic metallic sapphire. Now I know I may be behind the times, but this was actually my first time trying a peel-off mask, and after watching a viral video of a girl struggling to peel off her mask, I was trepidatious. Luckily, this one peeled off with minimal pain and maximum gratification. After rinsing away a few leftover blue specks, I finally understood what the company meant by “sexy contours.” My cheekbones appeared lifted, my skin felt firm, and my overall complexion appeared brighter. My boyfriend—who I also made try on the gender-neutral mask—conceded that his skin also felt tighter.

Like the original GlamGlow Gravitymud, the overall effect only lasts for a couple of hours, however, if you’re looking for a quick skin pick-me-up before a big day or night, it's a pretty solid bet. At $69, it’s a bit of a beauty splurge, but IMHO, the experience is so worth it. One catch? The GlamGlow Sonic Blue Gravitymud Firming Treatment is limited edition and will be available starting January 17 at glamglow.com and Sephora locations while supplies last.
